At its core, Excel.edu is a social initiative rooted in the belief that access to digital learning and formal employment know-how is essential for meaningful participation in today’s economy. The initiative seeks to bridge existing gaps in digital access and skill development by focusing on disabled individuals and students from underserved communities, for whom limited exposure to ICT skills and resources often restricts educational and professional opportunities.
Excel.edu thus brings together a combination of efforts to address these challenges, specifically through accessible digital education, resource support, and institutional collaboration. This includes the development of a simple guide on the foundations of Microsoft Office for novice learners, the donation of assistive technologies, laptops, and data cards to enable regular practice, and the facilitation of weekly sessions with an expert to conduct lessons and address student concerns. In order to broaden this mission, we got a number of firms to join the Advocate.edu pledge network, through which they stated that they would be open to both hiring more PwD and would actively work towards making their organizations more inclusive. Through these multi-level interventions, Excel.edu aims to increase access to digital skill sets geared to business environments for persons with disabilities and students from underserved communities in India.
